The Company
Intellijoint Surgical develops effective and easy-to-use technology to enhance surgeons’ care and patients’ lives. Our technology has been used in over 80,000 hip and knee surgeries to date. IJX is a new brand within Intellijoint seeking to further commercialize our core technology on a value-added OEM basis.
The Position
Reporting to the Technical Program Manager, IJX, the Algorithms & Image Processing Developer, IJX will contribute to the development of products in an OEM business unit, IJX, utilizing the proprietary features of Intellijoint Surgical’s products. This role includes exploring, prototyping, and applying technologies to solve a diverse array of clinical needs. This position is an opportunity to work with unique technology in a growing OEM business unit that can improve surgical outcomes and restore a patient’s quality of life.
Main Duties:
Conceive, prototype, implement, and test algorithms to solve clinical problems relating to image processing, computer vision, and spatial registration.
Investigate and enable clinical applications of the IJX navigation system
Develop and manage data interfaces with medical imaging equipment
Create system-level prototypes, including algorithms, UI/UX, and mechanical instrumentation
Design and realization (e.g., 3D printing, machining) of prototypes and test phantoms
Support algorithm implementation during formal product development
Provide product design leads with information necessary to make informed decisions on design choices through the development and execution of test protocols and test phantoms, and data simulation and analysis, with clear and effective documentation of methodologies, results, and conclusions
Validate the performance of IJX navigation system accuracy and clinical algorithms with formal and ad-hoc testing
Skills and Experience to Enable Success:
Degree in Engineering (preferably Biomedical, Systems Design, Mechatronics), Computer Science, or other related field
Master’s Degree or 1-2 years of relevant work experience (including relevant undergraduate coop experience)
Experience related to the application of medical navigation or optical tracking systems
Understanding of spatial geometry (coordinate systems, transformations, visualizations, etc)
- A well-rounded individual, with particular interest in, experience with, and passion for understanding:
- Math (3D transformations, linear algebra, linear/non-linear optimizations, machine learning, computer navigation, statistics)
- Programming (Python, visualizations, UI, MATLAB, JS, C++)
- Medical Imaging (MRI, CT, X-ray, C-Arm, 3D Slicer, Mimics, DICOM, DRRs)
- Biomedical/ Clinical Engineering (surgery, biomechanics, medical robotics, image guidance, 3D printing)
- Image processing (segmentation, edge detection, object localization, computer vision)
- 3D Modeling/CAD (Solidworks, OnShape)
Passionate about creatively solving problems with practical solutions
Comfortable working outside your area of expertise
Exposure to a variety of surgical contexts (surgical observation, orthopaedics, cadaver labs)
